The arrival of Little Miss Kate
Thanks for your overwhelming encouragement for the biggest gig of my life
- the birth of my baby girl. As the proud mama of the most beautiful and
amazing little girl in the world, I couldn't resist the opportunity to
publish a photo and brag! Duff and I never knew we could love anyone or
anything this much. After 26 fun-filled hours of labor, Katharine Celine
(named for her two great-grandma's, NOT the singer) turned our world upside
down on September 27, 2004 -- weighing in at eight pounds ten ounces and
measuring 21 inches long. As if Duff wasn't already the best guy in the
universe, dealing with me during my labor officially elevated his status
to sainthood in our family. A musician to the core, I brought to the hospital
10 CDs of musical inspiration, which included a song from my new album
that I started writing on the day I found out I was pregnant, called "One
Day at a Time." I sing to Kate all the time, and when she's not rolling
onto her belly, eating her toes, giggling, or giving me open mouth kisses
on my cheek, she squeals along too. (She's very talented.) At nearly six
months, she has finally grown into her unusually long fingers
a
future pianist perhaps? At the rate she kicked inside of me, however,
I think I may be destined to be the mother of a drummer
time will
tell.
Mamapalooza-San Francisco Festival - a celebration of Moms in music and
the arts
Yup, you read it correctly: Mamapalooza. I was honored to be invited to
chair its San Francisco debut this May along with local singer/songwriter/mom
Tiffany Petrossi. The first Mamapalooza-SF show will be at Slim's on
Saturday May 14th from noon-4pm. Slim's is an all ages venue, so bring
your families! My The Little Fox Theatre CD release party on
May 15th will be the final show of weekend. Mamapalooza is the only
cultural event of its kind dedicated to honoring and celebrating motherhood
- we feature MOM musicians, artists, poets, comics, dancers and filmmakers.
Founded in New York four years ago, Mamapalooza and the "mom rock"
movement have been featured by ABC, NBC, CBS, National Public Radio, USA
Today, and People Magazine among others. We're proud to be
donating a portion of the profits of Mamapalooza to SOS Children's Village
USA - a charity dedicated to providing abandoned and abused children with
permanent homes. One final note: if you are a mom-artist, photographer,
filmmaker, or poet and would like to participate in Mamapalooza-SF, please
email us at info@junglequeenrecords.com
for more information about how to apply!
You Can Help!
Would you like to join the Emily Lord street team? We need volunteers

Hello Friends,
I'm back! After nearly an eight-month "sabbatical"
for the birth of my baby girl, I'm back! I return a little less rested
(as is the way with new moms) but I have NEVER felt more energized about
my music and where we're headed. I have so much to tell you about, and
if you're patient enough to read the entirety of this newsletter, thank
you. I hope that after reading you'll be fired up, too. We have an extraordinary
few months ahead of us, and through it all, we'll need your support more
than ever before!
Brand New Day coming May 2005!
We hope you'll agree this album was worth the wait. We are so proud of
this project! I was lucky to have the support of amazing musicians during
our Austin recording session last June. My band (Brian Breckenridge, Steve
Clendenin, Shawn Currin, Carolyn McNabb), Kevin Fleming (a long-time buddy
of mine from high school, Notre Dame, and albums past) and Producer extraordinaire,
Mark Hallman were invaluable. Mark recently added to his resume a Grammy
nomination for Best Contemporary Folk Album for producing Eliza Gilkyson's
Land of Milk and Honey (one of my favorite albums of 2004.) I feel
so fortunate to have Mark on our team. I'm calling the album Brand
New Day for the recent changes in my personal life, the ever changing
music industry, and the dawn of a whole new chapter in my music career.
We have assembled a killer team in New York City to help market and promote
the CD nationally, but most important to the success of this release is
our grassroots campaign with all of you spreading the word!
